As a result, much of the material wealth accrued over the previous two years has now been lost to investors. Thus, seasoned, long-term investors could become quite dissatisfied with this sudden alteration to their holding. Management has stated there will be continued weakness in the smartphone market (the market still accounts for a large part of Qualcomm's overall revenue). Key investor concerns: There has been an increase in the time between when phones get replaced globally. There are more mobile chips than any likely near-term new product to spur growth. After going through multiple rounds of investor euphoria and sudden disappointment, these factors have all helped cause a general reduction in shareholder confidence, who were expecting a much better recovery this time when compared to past downturns. <h2>Valuation and income profile offer partial support</h2>Even after the recent drop, Qualcomm still has some appealing traits for those investors focused on the long term: Dividend yield around 2.5%, Moderate price-to-earnings ratios when compared to some of its peers, Analyst price targets above the stock’s current trading price. The drop in Qualcomm's value as a company is due to something much bigger than just short-term fluctuations in market prices. This decline raises an important question concerning whether or not the semiconductor industry will be able to grow outside of the current cyclical nature of its business because Qualcomm's main source of revenue at this time is from their mobile phone business. Without showing that they can continue to expand beyond mobile phones, Qualcomm's stock price could remain flat despite reasonable ratings and dividend support.
