Final Demand PPI is 0.5% monthly increase vs. 0.3% consensus. Final Demand PPI (ex. food &amp; energy) of 0.8% vs. a 0.3% consensus. According to a statement from the BLS: "For final demand services, prices increased by 0.8%. For final demand goods, prices decreased by 0.3%." This news comes after a series of stubborn inflation reports and reduces the likelihood of any near-term aggressive rate cuts by the Federal Reserve. In contrast, Bitcoin ($BTC) is traded more like a risk-on asset than a pure inflation hedge during periods of macro stress even though there have been several instances where BTC was referred to as "digital gold." In addition to having a history of being influenced by liquidity, interest rate expectations, and equity sentiment, it has not exhibited the direct correlation of being an inflation hedge.<h2>Monthly Close Anxiety and Bearish Warnings</h2>As the closing of February’s monthly candles approaches, Bitcoin market participants are anxious. Closing below key levels may signal a deeper retracement and a retest of swing lows from earlier in the month. Popular crypto trader and analyst Michaël van de Poppe cautioned that there is a strong possibility that early February’s price action will repeat itself when BTC/USD printed 15-month lows of $59K before recovering. Van de Poppe said the failure to hold current support areas may result in a leg lower in the short term, together with persistent inflation and diminished expectations of a Federal Reserve rate cut.
