Pavia is a Web3 metaverse project built on the Cardano blockchain, launched in 2021. The project's name is inspired by the Italian city of Pavia, the birthplace of Gerolamo Cardano, after whom the Cardano blockchain was named. The primary goal of Pavia is to create a cross-chain and cross-platform metaverse experience. It aims to connect individuals interested in cryptocurrency, Web3 development, and gaming by providing a virtual world for interaction, building, and exploration. A core feature of Pavia is its virtual land. There are 100,000 unique parcels of virtual land, each minted as a Cardano Non-Fungible Token (CNFT). Users can own, develop, and trade these land parcels within the metaverse. In December 2021, Pavia airdropped its native utility tokens to landowners. The native utility token for the project is called PAVIA. This token is designed to be the main medium of exchange within the Pavia ecosystem. Its potential uses include facilitating virtual land ownership, serving as an in-game currency for purchasing items and services, and enabling governance rights for holders to vote on key project decisions. Players can also create their own 3D in-game assets, known as Pavia Compatible Assets (PCAs), for use on their land parcels. Pavia is currently in its development phase. The project has outlined plans to add liquidity to Cardano-based decentralized exchanges. It also aims to foster user-generated content and has partnered with Ready Player Me to allow users to design avatars compatible across various applications. An attempt to migrate some PAVIA tokens to Ethereum as ERC20 tokens was not successful, leading to those tokens being burned, with one billion remaining on Cardano. The project is also working on adding support for a large number of avatars.
