MilkyWay Staked TIA, known as milkTIA, is a liquid staking token designed for the Celestia blockchain ecosystem. It functions as a receipt token that users receive when they stake their native TIA tokens through the MilkyWay protocol. The process involves users depositing TIA tokens into the MilkyWay protocol, typically facilitated by transfers between Celestia and Osmosis. When a user wishes to redeem their original TIA, they burn their milkTIA, and after the Celestia unbonding period, the TIA is released back to them. Technologically, MilkyWay is built using CosmWasm contracts and a multisig custody system, primarily deployed on the Osmosis blockchain. The MilkyWay protocol itself is a modular staking platform developed within the Cosmos ecosystem, built using the Cosmos SDK and secured by CometBFT, with plans to expand its liquid staking solutions to other modular ecosystems beyond Celestia.
