Idena is a decentralized proof-of-personhood blockchain designed to create a democratic and Sybil-resistant ecosystem. Unlike traditional networks that rely on computing power or capital, Idena focuses on the uniqueness and humanness of its participants. It operates on the principle of one person, one vote, aiming to prevent the concentration of power often seen in other systems. The core of the project is its novel consensus mechanism called Proof-of-Personhood. To ensure that every node in the network belongs to a unique human being, Idena uses synchronous validation ceremonies. These ceremonies happen at the same time globally to prevent a single person from participating with multiple accounts. During a session, users must solve flips, which are AI-resistant puzzles or CAPTCHAs created by other human participants. These flips typically involve choosing the logical sequence of images to tell a simple story, a task that is easy for humans but difficult for automated bots. The native token of the network is the Idena coin, identified by the ticker IDNA. It serves several utility functions within the ecosystem. Participants who successfully pass the validation process are granted a cryptoidentity and become eligible to mine the blockchain. Mining in Idena is accessible to anyone with an average laptop, as it does not require specialized or expensive hardware. The token is also used for network governance, allowing validated members to participate in decision-making processes. Additionally, it is used for staking and can be utilized in various decentralized applications built on the Idena blockchain, such as decentralized advertisements or oracle services. Privacy is a significant focus of the project. Idena does not require users to provide personally identifiable information, such as names, addresses, or government IDs. Instead, the proof of humanity is established solely through the successful completion of the periodic flip tests. A users validation status is temporary and must be renewed in each subsequent epoch to maintain their standing and mining privileges. To join the network as a new validator, individuals typically need an invitation from an existing, validated member. This invitation-based system helps maintain the integrity of the network by encouraging members to invite reliable participants. The project envisions a future where its decentralized identity can be used for fair voting, universal basic income distribution, and other social or economic systems that require a high degree of trust and human uniqueness.
