There are two distinct projects that relate to the concept of an "Energy Dollar". One project is "The Energy Network," which utilizes a token called Energy Dollar (ENERGY). Participants in this network earn Energy Dollars ($ENERGY) for actively shifting their energy usage to help reduce grid network congestion and improve grid reliability. These earned tokens can then be used to unlock discounts on various products and services offered within the ecosystem. The Energy Dollar (ENERGY) token operates on the Solana blockchain. The project aims to address issues like volatile energy prices and grid inefficiencies by leveraging on-chain incentives for coordinating electricity demand, integrated with a regulated energy business called Fuse Energy. Another project, the Quai Network, introduces a stablecoin alternative called QI, which they refer to as an "Energy Dollar." Unlike typical stablecoins, QI is not backed by traditional assets. Instead, it uses market incentives to align its price with the cost of energy. QI serves as the native token for the UTXO shards within the Quai Network, which is a scalable and programmable Proof-of-Work blockchain. Miners on the Quai Network have the option to receive their block rewards in either Quai (the network's primary token) or QI. The value of QI is intrinsically linked to the Proof-of-Work network's energy consumption, making its value derived from a crypto-native source: energy.
