Botanix Staked Bitcoin, or stBTC, is a wrapped token that represents Bitcoin staked within the Bitcoin Yield protocol on the Botanix network. Unlike some other staking tokens, stBTC operates on a non-rebasing model. This means that the quantity of stBTC tokens held by a user remains constant, while its value in relation to Bitcoin grows as rewards are accumulated. The primary function of stBTC is to allow Bitcoin to be utilized as a productive asset within the decentralized finance (DeFi) ecosystem, while also contributing to the security of the Botanix network. When users deposit Bitcoin into the Bitcoin Yield protocol, they receive stBTC tokens, which act as a receipt for their deposit. This architecture relies on a decentralized coordination layer composed of multi-signature wallets and orchestrator nodes. The technology behind stBTC is based on the EIP-4626 tokenized vault standard, which is also used in the Ethereum ecosystem. This standard helps ensure stBTC's interoperability with various DeFi protocols. Security audits for the protocol have been conducted by Spearbit and Sigma Prime. Rewards for stBTC holders are generated from the Botanix network's gas fees. Specifically, fifty percent of all transaction fees on the Botanix network, which are paid in Bitcoin, are redistributed to stBTC holders. This mechanism aims to provide Bitcoin-native yield and enhance the network's security by encouraging participation in staking.
