Orcfax is a decentralized oracle project built specifically for the Cardano blockchain. Its primary mission is to bridge the gap between real-world data and on-chain smart contracts by providing trustworthy, verifiably accurate, and auditable information. Unlike traditional oracles that may rely on a single data source, Orcfax employs a strategy called data triangulation, where facts are collected and validated from at least three independent sources before being published. A core feature of the project is its focus on archival integrity. It generates standards-compliant audit logs for every data point it publishes. these logs are stored on decentralized storage networks like Arweave, allowing anyone to independently verify the source, collection method, and validation history of a specific piece of data. This approach is often described by the project as a trust-but-verify model, aimed at solving the oracle problem by ensuring that data used in decentralized applications is authentic and tamper-proof. The project utilizes the Cardano Open Oracle Protocol and publishes data in the native eUTXO format, making it highly compatible with Cardano-based smart contracts and scripts. Beyond decentralized finance, Orcfax aims to support a wide range of use cases including supply chain tracking, insurance, decentralized journalism, and providing validated facts for training artificial intelligence models. The native utility token for the ecosystem is known as FACT. This token serves several critical functions within the network: 1. It is used by consumers to pay for the publication of data feeds. 2. It acts as staked collateral for validator nodes to ensure honest participation and network security. 3. It is used to reward validator node operators for their work in collecting and verifying data. 4. It will provide voting power for future governance decisions through a decentralized autonomous organization. The project transitioned from a research phase funded by Cardano's Project Catalyst to a live mainnet service. It is currently moving toward a fully decentralized model through an incentivized testnet and a network of licensed validator nodes. The ecosystem also includes a tool called the Fact Explorer, which provides a human-readable interface for searching and browsing the audit trails of all fact statements published to the blockchain. Orcfax is led by a team with expertise in digital archiving and information management, which is reflected in their emphasis on creating permanent, machine-readable records of real-world events. By prioritizing transparency and long-term data preservation, the project seeks to establish itself as a foundational layer for decentralized truth on the Cardano network.
