Fluence is a decentralized, serverless computing platform designed to provide an alternative to traditional centralized cloud services. By removing the reliance on single-entity cloud corporations, Fluence aims to eliminate vendor lock-in and increase the resilience and censorship resistance of internet infrastructure. The technical foundation of Fluence rests on a peer-to-peer architecture where computing resources are pooled from a global network of providers, ranging from professional data centers to individual servers. The network ensures the integrity and correctness of computations through cryptographic methods such as proofs of compute and proof of capacity. It is built using an Arbitrum Orbit layer 2 appchain anchored to the Ethereum blockchain, which facilitates coordination and keeps transaction costs low. Additionally, the project leverages technology like InterPlanetary Consensus to achieve high throughput and scalability. The FLT token is the native utility and governance asset of the Fluence ecosystem. It serves multiple roles, including serving as collateral for compute providers who must stake the token to join the network and offer their hardware capacity. This staking mechanism is designed to ensure provider accountability and network security. Token holders can also participate as delegators, staking their assets with providers to help secure the network and earn rewards for their participation. Furthermore, FLT is used for gas payments within the platform and provides voting rights in the Fluence DAO. This decentralized autonomous organization allows the community to govern protocol updates, treasury allocations, and strategic partnerships. The project emphasizes a developer-friendly environment by offering tools such as a peer-to-peer development platform, software development kits, and application programming interfaces. It is designed to be compatible with both traditional web2 data systems and web3 storage solutions like Filecoin. Recent roadmap goals for the project include the development of a decentralized GPU mesh to support artificial intelligence workloads, as well as the integration of decentralized storage primitives for AI agents and distributed applications.
