Tranchess is a decentralized asset management protocol designed for yield enhancement. Its name is a combination of "Tranche"—a financial term referring to different layers of risk and return—and "Chess," which serves as the project's creative theme. The protocol offers structured funds that allow users to customize their exposure to underlying assets based on their specific risk appetite.
Tranchess uses a three-token system to cater to different investor needs. Token QUEEN is the main fund token that tracks the underlying asset (like ETH or BTC) 1-to-1, ideal for long-term holders. Token BISHOP serves as a fixed-income tranche providing stable returns for risk-averse users. Token ROOK is a leveraged tranche, offering approximately 2x exposure to the underlying asset for aggressive traders.
Unlike traditional margin trading which can result in total loss through liquidation, Tranchess utilizes a unique "Rebalance" mechanism. When the market moves significantly, the protocol automatically adjusts the net asset value (NAV) of the tokens to reset the leverage. This prevents the Rook tranche from hitting zero, ensuring that users maintain their positions even during extreme market volatility.
CHESS is the governance token of the protocol. Users can lock their CHESS for up to four years to receive veCHESS (vote-escrowed CHESS). Holding veCHESS allows users to vote on protocol parameters, receive a share of protocol fees, and earn boosted yields in the platform's farming pools. The longer the lock duration, the more voting power and rewards the user receives.
Yields for Tranchess participants are generated from three primary sources: staking rewards from underlying assets (such as liquid staking ETH), a 50% share of protocol fees distributed to veCHESS holders, and CHESS token emissions. These rewards are distributed to users who stake their Queen, Bishop, or Rook tokens in the protocol’s various pools.
Tranchess protects against flash loan attacks and price manipulation by using a 30-minute Time-Weighted Average Price (TWAP) oracle rather than real-time feeds. The protocol has been audited by security firms like PeckShield and CertiK. However, users should be aware of smart contract risks, market volatility that could impact the value of tranches, and potential oracle failures.
