GoGoPool, which has recently evolved and rebranded its broader ecosystem as Hypha, is a decentralized liquid staking protocol built specifically for the Avalanche network. The primary goal of the project is to simplify and accelerate the growth of Avalanche Subnets, which are now often referred to as Layer 1 blockchains. It achieves this by lowering the barriers to entry for both individual stakers and those looking to run validator nodes. The protocol introduces a concept known as Minipools. In a standard Avalanche setup, launching a validator node requires a significant amount of native tokens. GoGoPool reduces this requirement by approximately half. It does this by matching a node operator's own stake with funds from a liquid staking pool. This mechanism allows more users to participate in network security and enables developers to launch new blockchains with less capital-intensive infrastructure requirements. For general users, the platform offers liquid staking. When users deposit their native tokens into the protocol, they receive a liquid staking token in return, currently known as stAVAX and previously as ggAVAX. This token represents the user's deposit plus the rewards it earns over time. Unlike traditional staking where funds are locked, these liquid tokens can be used in other decentralized finance applications or traded, providing liquidity while still earning rewards. The native utility token of the project is GGP. It serves several critical roles within the ecosystem. First, it is used as collateral by node operators when they create Minipools. This acts as a form of insurance to ensure the node maintains high uptime and follows network rules. If a node fails to meet performance standards, the staked GGP can be used to compensate the liquid stakers. Additionally, the token is used for governance through the GoGoPool Protocol DAO, now the Hypha DAO. Token holders can propose and vote on changes to the protocol, such as adjustment to reward distributions, upgrades to the system, and treasury management. The project recently transitioned to the Hypha brand to reflect its expanded mission. While the staking services continue to operate under the GoGoPool name, Hypha encompasses a broader suite of services including validator marketplaces and tools designed to streamline the deployment of independent blockchains within the Avalanche ecosystem. The ecosystem is supported by a community-driven model where a portion of the network rewards is directed to a treasury and an OracleDAO to ensure ongoing development and security. Learn more
