DeFi Kingdoms Crystal, often referred to by its ticker CRYSTAL, is the primary power token for the Crystalvale realm within the DeFi Kingdoms ecosystem. DeFi Kingdoms is a cross-chain play-to-earn game that combines decentralized finance features with nostalgic fantasy pixel art and role-playing game elements. While the project originally started on the Harmony network, the Crystalvale expansion led to the creation of the DFK Chain, which is an Avalanche Subnet dedicated to the game's infrastructure. In the world of DeFi Kingdoms, CRYSTAL serves several core functions related to gameplay and platform utility. It is used as the main currency for interacting with Hero NFTs in the Crystalvale realm. This includes summoning new Heroes at the Portal, where players combine the genes of existing characters to create new ones, and leveling up Hero statistics to improve their performance in quests. Additionally, the token is used for purchasing and hatching Pet NFTs, which provide various bonuses to their owners. Players can also use CRYSTAL within the in-game marketplace to trade for other resources or items needed for crafting and questing. It plays a role in the competitive side of the game as well, such as being required for entry into certain tournaments or minigames like DFK Duel. Beyond active gameplay, the token has a role in the platform's governance, allowing holders to participate in voting on proposals that affect the future development and direction of the Crystalvale realm. Historically, CRYSTAL was earned by players who provided liquidity in the Ice Gardens or staked other ecosystem tokens like JEWEL. However, the project has transitioned its tokenomics over time. In late 2023, the emission of new CRYSTAL tokens from the Gardens was concluded, moving the asset toward a model where it is supported by in-game activity and fee-sharing rather than constant new supply. This shift was designed to create a more sustainable internal economy for the game.
