Spectra, previously known as APWine Finance, is a decentralized finance protocol focused on yield tokenization. The project allows users to manage and trade the future yield of their interest-bearing assets. By depositing tokens from other protocols into Spectra, users can separate the principal of their investment from the interest it generates over a specific timeframe. The protocol functions through a two-token system. Principal Tokens represent the underlying deposit, while Future Yield Tokens represent the claim on the interest that the asset will generate. This mechanism enables users to sell their future yield upfront for immediate liquidity or to hedge against fluctuating interest rates. Conversely, traders can use the platform to speculate on yield movements across various DeFi ecosystems. The designation of Spectra OLD refers specifically to the original APW token. In late 2024, the project initiated a major transition to a new ecosystem token simply called SPECTRA. This migration was part of a broader upgrade to the protocol's governance and technical infrastructure. As part of this evolution, the project shifted its primary governance operations to the Base network to leverage its growing ecosystem and lower transaction costs. The migration from APW to the new token was designed to address technical limitations and modernize the project's tokenomics. While the older APW token remains on various networks due to its immutable nature, its primary utility for governance and protocol incentives has been phased out in favor of the new version. The newer iteration of the protocol also introduced permissionless pool creation, allowing anyone to create yield-trading markets for any compatible interest-bearing asset. In the Web3 space, Spectra serves as a specialized layer for interest rate derivatives. It prioritizes composability, meaning its tokens and yield-trading functions can be integrated into other decentralized applications. Governance for the project is managed through a voting escrow system, where participants lock their tokens to gain voting weight and influence the direction of the protocol.
