Autonomys Network is a modular blockchain project designed to serve as the foundational infrastructure for the era of decentralized artificial intelligence, often referred to as AI 3.0. It evolved from the Subspace Protocol after years of research and development focused on solving the core challenges of scalability, decentralization, and security in the Web3 space. The project rebranded to Autonomys Network in mid 2024 to better reflect its mission of supporting autonomous AI agents and intelligent applications. The technical core of the network is based on a novel consensus mechanism known as Proof of Archival Storage. This approach allows the network to be energy efficient and accessible, enabling regular users to participate in securing the chain by committing unused disk space on standard hardware. Participants in this process are known as farmers. By separating transaction ordering from execution, the network can scale its storage and compute capacity as more nodes join without compromising on decentralization. The AI3 token is the native utility token of the ecosystem. It serves several primary functions, including paying for transaction fees and storage costs, participating in the staking mechanism to secure the network, and enabling holders to take part in governance decisions. The token is designed to act as the fuel for various on-chain activities, such as accessing AI services and incentivizing developers and participants. Autonomys aims to provide a comprehensive stack for decentralized AI through several key components. These include Auto ID, a self-sovereign identity framework for humans and digital agents; Auto Drive, for permanent and verifiable data storage; and Auto Agents, which allows for the creation of autonomous software that can interact with smart contracts. The network is structured to support high throughput and low latency, making it suitable for hosting complex AI models and data-heavy decentralized applications. The project has achieved significant milestones, including the launch of its initial mainnet phase in late 2024. Future development plans focus on introducing execution domains to further enhance performance and enabling full interoperability between different blockchain networks. Through its focus on verifiable and private human AI interaction, Autonomys Network seeks to build a fair and open ecosystem where data ownership and identity remain in the hands of the users.
