The Sui blockchain status page is reporting another "major outage" less than a full 24-hours following its last event. The hyper-scalable blockchain hasn’t processed a block in nearly two hours, according to Suiscan.
"Sui mainnet is currently experiencing a network stall. Network activity may be paused at this time," the Sui team posted to X on Friday morning. "The Sui Core team is actively investigating. Updates and incident review will be shared as soon as they are available."
The (SUI) token is trading at $0.90, down slightly on the day, according to The Block's price page.
On Thursday, Sui went down for 5 hours and 55 minutes, according to its status page, its worst outage on record. This follows a similar outage in January.
Sui said yesterday’s "network stall" was caused by a "bug in the gas charging logic introduced by the 1.72 release," though a full post-mortem has not yet been published.
Sui's documentation notes v1.72.2 introduced two major protocol enhancements, including Address Balances, a way to simplify transactions by shifting away from Sui's UTXO model and adding a single canonical balance for each token type, and Gasless Stablecoin Transfers.
"Gasless Stablecoin Transfers enable supported stablecoins to be sent peer-to-peer — including batched PTBs — with no gas fees and no gas token required," the release notes read.
It is unclear if Friday’s issue is connected to the same bug. Sui’s status page has yet to post about the current outage, though it shows that at least two-thirds of the validator set had upgraded to the fix rolled out Thursday.
The Block reached out to the Sui team on X and may update this story as we learn more.
